Football: Letter from Ohio State says Pryor could not have played this seasonJul 26, 2011 (The Columbus Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Terrelle Pryor's attorney received an official letter from Ohio State yesterday that declared Pryor ineligible for further college competition, a notice that Larry James said should end the debate of whether Pryor should be eligible for an NFL supplemental draft. The letter also banned the quarterback from any contact with the school's athletic program for five years. The letter, signed by OSU athletic director Gene Smith, cited Pryor's unwillingness to cooperate further with an NCAA investigation. "I have appreciated your willingness in the past to consent to lengthy interviews by the institution and the NCAA, and to provide certain financial records," Smith said in the letter. "I was disappointed to learn from your attorney that as of June 7, 2011, you have chosen not to interview (any more) with the representatives of the NCAA and the Ohio State University. "In light of that decision the university must declare you ineligible for intercollegiate competition because you failed to cooperate with the university in violation of NCAA Bylaw 10.1 (which requires, among other things, cooperation and forthright, honest answers). In addition, due to that failure to cooperate, the university must disassociate you from its athletic program for a period of five years." Questions arose this week about Pryor's eligibility the NFL supplemental draft, which requires some unforeseen circumstance that affects one's eligibility after the Jan. 15 deadline for declaring for the regular draft. The NFL has yet to declare a supplemental draft. James said Pryor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is working with the league to show Pryor's worthiness for one.
