BRIEF: Community turns out for free swim

Jul 28, 2011 (The Dominion Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The United Way Family Resource Network (FRN) drew a crowd of splash-happy area residents to its free pool party Wednesday.

For two hours after Krepps Pool's regular closing time, all ages frolicked in the water -- with the kiddie pool attracting the youngest folks.

The party started at 6:30 p.m., when temperatures were dropping from the 80s into the upper 70s, giving everyone a chance to cool off from the heat.

With humidity near 60 percent, according to the National Weather Service website, the pool offered that little bit of extra buffering from the weather.

The FRN is a partnership between state government and local communities to identify their needs and develop and implement a local action plan. It serves as the primary coordinating and planning body for the community service system for children and families within the network's area of influence.

FRNs exist throughout the state.

The local FRN is involved in a number of local programs, including drives for local food pantries and the annual Christmas food-toy distribution.
