More Americans use video-sharing sites: research

SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 26, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- A latest research released on Tuesday shows that more online U.S. adults reported watching videos on a video-sharing site.

According to a report from Pew Internet and American Life Project by Pew Research Center, 71 percent of American adults used video-sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo, compared to 66 percent one year earlier. It also has a 38 percent increase from five years ago when the research center took its first reading on use of video-sharing sites.

In the survey, 28 percent of online Americans said they had gone to such sites "yesterday," which means more than a quarter of U.S. adults visited video-sharing sites on any given day.

The report said the rise in use of video-sharing sites is partly driven by the growth in content on sites like YouTube and by user contributions. Latest statistics from YouTube show that 48 hours of content are uploaded every minute to the site.

Also on Tuesday, a report from network management vendor Allot Communications said nearly a quarter of all global mobile bandwidth is consumed by people watching YouTube videos, which account for 52 percent of all global mobile video streaming.
