University of Texas Practice Boosts Productivity and Cash Flow with McKesson Revenue Management Solutions

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)--

For more than seven years, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) - the nation's seventh-largest medical school - has relied on McKesson's Revenue Management Solutions (RMS) to help manage its growth and gain efficiencies across the revenue cycle. RMS enables UTHealth's Physician Faculty Practice Plan (UT Physicians) to maintain its mission of providing high-quality, personalized patient care while operating in an environment of cost containment, declining reimbursements and healthcare reform.

The faculty practice plan, which comprises 17 clinical departments and more than 900 providers, has worked with McKesson RMS to automate and streamline its front-end billing processes, in turn improving back-end operations. The practice has cut costs significantly, even during a time of substantial growth. UT Physicians also credits the RMS team's resource management with freeing staff to focus on customer service and patient care.

"McKesson RMS is highly regarded in the academic medical community, and the team has clearly demonstrated its willingness to invest in improving our revenue cycle processes," said Kevin Dillon, senior executive vice president, chief operating and financial officer for UTHealth. "RMS' deep expertise in compliance and revenue cycle management continues to make them the right partner for us."

Under an expanded agreement, McKesson RMS will retain responsibility for UT Physicians' billing, accounts receivables management, business intelligence reporting, and regulatory compliance. In addition, the radiology and anesthesia departments will take advantage of RMS' coding expertise.

"UT Physicians is a prime example of faculty practice leaders who recognize the value of long-term collaboration with a proven partner to achieve revenue management goals," said Pat Leonard, senior vice president and general manager for McKesson's RMS group. "In a climate where it's vital to minimize risk and optimize reimbursement, we're pleased that academic medical centers are turning to McKesson to help them successfully manage their operations."

McKesson RMS is a market leader in medical billing, reporting and accounts receivable management services. McKesson's RMS solutions are supported by a team of more than 4,000 employees dedicated to helping physicians grow revenues, control costs and reduce regulatory risk.
