BRIEF: New London police investigate two separate robberies
NEW LONDON, Jul 21, 2011 (The Day - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Police are investigating two separate armed robberies that occurred Wednesday night.
The first robbery occurred at 9:30 p.m. outside the United Grocery at 237 Jefferson Ave. The victim told police that while he was inside his car a man brandished what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money. The victim drove away unharmed.
The second reported robbery occurred at 10 p.m. in the area of Hempstead and Manwaring streets. Two men approached the victim, displayed a handgun and demanded money.
Police said the victim thought it was a joke, but the suspects repeated their demands.
The victim determined the gun was made out of plastic. The victim disarmed one of the suspects, causing them both to flee.
Police canines were used to track the suspects. Pieces of a plastic toy gun were discovered during the track.
The suspects in both cases are described as two Hispanic/black males wearing black-hooded sweatshirts, jeans and black sneakers.
They both have a thin build and are about 6 feet tall.
No arrests have been made. Police are still investigating the robberies.
