Minister Vows to Improve Police Image, Training


Jul 22, 2011 (Daily Trust/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- The Minister of Police Affairs Caleb Olubolade has promised to give a face-lift to police image, improve police-military relations, enhance training as well as improve the welfare of the police.

The minister said during a meeting with senior police officers at police headquarters Abuja.

He said police image will be enhanced to draw public support and ensure that the public share information with the police. "Without public support, police can't work effectively," he said.


He said the he will begin a tour of all police formations in the country to interact with junior police officers in an effort to ascertain specific welfare needs that can be improved.

He also promised to look at the problems of barracks accommodation as well as allow officers to take part in various training programs locally and abroad to improve crime detection and prevention methods.

The minister said he will be holding monthly meetings with top police management team to enable government respond to the demands of police promptly and obtain situation reports on national security.

He said the intelligence network of the police has to be redefined to include efficient ways of crime detection.

Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringin pledged to support the minister.
