Al-Makura Promises Standard School Infrastructure


Lafia, Jul 22, 2011 (Daily Trust/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Nasarawa State government has disclosed his administration's determination to recover schools from infrastructural decay by providing standard structures with the taste of time, his media aide, Iliyasu Ali Yakubu has said.

He said so, and is committed to do so for our children to have a conducive atmosphere to go about their leaning process", Yakubu said yesterday.

He said the governor made the promise during his visit of Government Secondary School in Bukan Sidi section of Lafia "He lamented the situation which he described as petty and wickedness at this age; where students are subjected to dehumanizing learning conditions even at examinations", he said, adding that "the governor further described the school structures as a death trap and ordered the immediate stoppage of lessons in the dilapidated classrooms and directed for lesson under the trees instead, while the rehabilitation of the existing structures are being carried out." He quoted the governor to have promised to take the school as model for the recovery programme, saying that in the next one month, the school would be accorded priority in rebuilding the classrooms.


"According to him, the nature and the location of the school have a lot of values impact on the students hence the intervention to bring about the school in good condition", he said, adding "Governor Al-Makura blamed the Area Inspectorate and the ministry for not leaving up to expectations as he directed the authorities step up monitoring and supervision of post primary schools in the state to enhance effective and efficient leaning condition.
