Mark Your Calendar: Young Professionals Network mixer to hit Wildwood BoardwalkJul 22, 2011 (The Press of Atlantic City - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Young Professionals Network of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce is trying something exciting and new next week: a Friday night blend of fun and networking on the Boardwalk. "We've never done a Friday Night Out before, and we thought, you know, everybody needs a Friday night out," said Sara Freeman, the chamber's communications and events director. She said the group has invited members of the Greater Wildwood Jaycees, the Atlantic City Jaycees, the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce's young professionals group, and the South Jersey Young Professionals Association. All young professionals are welcome to attend. Freeman said she is sorry to remind people that business people must be between the ages of 21 and 40 to attend. "Our chamber chairman always jokes, 'Oh, I wish I belonged to this group,'" she said. The Friday Night Out will be held at Joe's Fish Co. on Morey's Surfside Pier, which will provide complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. "We're excited to have it at Morey's pier because they have a great young professionals base, particularly in their sales and marketing departments," she said. Participants can purchase an amusement ride pass for $36 (a savings of $12) and ride until closing. At 10 p.m., there will be fireworks. Freeman said the Young Professionals Network wants to learn from similar organizations what they do for community service, which combined with networking and professional development is the mission of the group. The YPN started in 2007 with a strong networking event at the Cape May Winery. As part of its volunteer efforts, it has created a garden at the Cape May County Zoo, she said. The group meets quarterly for networking functions, twice a year for professional development, and then pursues community involvement once a month, Freeman said. "We also have a new Facebook page. Our last article we put up was 'Seven tips to help young professionals fit in,'" she said. She said the organization eventually would also like to make contacts within the school system and work with upcoming young professionals. But right now, it hopes Friday Night Out is successful enough that it can be offered every year. To see more of The Press of Atlantic City, go to http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/.
