BRIEF: Man charged in Walmart holdupJul 22, 2011 (Aiken Standard - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- North Augusta Public Safety officers have arrested one man in connection with an armed robbery at a North Augusta Walmart and have identified and are searching for a second man, official said. Anthony Hammond, 18, of Hephzibah, is charged in the July 15 holdup, according police. During his confession, he implicated 18-year-old Deondre Ragland, of Augusta, for his involvement in the armed robbery. Public Safety said two men walked into the garden center at the North Augusta Walmart about 9:30 p.m. late last week and initially pulled sodas from the cooler directly across from the cash register. They approached the checkout line and, as the cashier opened her register, one of the men pulled a gun and stuck it to her head, said Sgt. Tim Thornton, a spokesman for North Augusta Public Safety. Walmart security video shows the gunman reaching across the counter to grab the money while the other man ran around the counter to take the remaining money from the register drawer. Both suspects then fled. Any contact and or knowledge of Ragland's whereabouts should be forwarded to either North Augusta Public Safety or the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Thornton said. No photo of Hammond was available at press time. To see more of the Aiken Standard or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.aikenstandard.com/. Copyright (c) 2011, Aiken Standard, S.C.
