Jul 19, 2011 (SmarTrend(R) Market Commentary via COMTEX) -- Last updated July 19, 2011: 12:30 PM ET --- The major U.S. equity indices are trading higher Tuesday as quarterly results top expectations and following data on the housing-market.

The Commerce Department reported builders started work on a seasonally adjusted 629,000 homes in June, up 14.6% from May. Economists had expected a 3.6% increase to 580,000.

In corporate news, Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO) reported Q2 EPS of $1.20, ahead of consensus estimates of $1.16 per share. Revenues for the quarter rose 47% year-over-year to $12.7 billion, topping consensus estimates of $12.4 billion.


Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) reported adjusted Q2 EPS of $0.33, ahead of consensus estimates of $0.29 per share. Revenues for the quarter were $13.48 billion, ahead of consensus estimates of $12.34 billion.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is trading 1.06% higher at 12,516.28, the S&P500 (INX) is trading 0.86% higher at 1,316.73, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is trading 1.48% higher at 2,806.15.
