[July 18, 2011] Toshiba confirms illegal access to TAIS servers Tweet Jul 18, 2011 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Toshiba Corporation confirmed on Saturday that one of the US based servers that contained customer registration information of US-based Toshiba Group company Toshiba America Information Systems Inc (TAIS) was recently illegally hacked. According to the company, the hacked server's database included information on 7,520 of TAIS's customers, but did not contain such personal data as financial information or credit card and social security numbers. To date, TAIS's investigation has confirmed data theft of e-mail addresses and passwords affecting 681 customers. On discovering the intrusion, TAIS took the server offline and initiated investigation. The company has also alerted the relevant customers of the breach and that their data may have been compromised.
