The Fayetteville Observer, N.C., Jessica Banov column

Jul 15, 2011 (The Fayetteville Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS" First, I'd like to thank those viewers who have not revealed how this series will end after five beautiful seasons. (Of course, I also stayed away from the spoilers.) And while I know the finale already aired on DirecTV and the final season is out on DVD, I've enjoyed watching the final season unfold on my own terms. Then again, "enjoy" may not be the right word. I've relished the final episodes, indeed. But it's hard to say goodbye to a quality TV series -- and old friend -- even though we became pals late in the game. I'm excited to see that the final season earned the show Emmy nominations for the series as well as for Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. The way tonight's finale is set up, I'm a little concerned about the future of Coach Taylor (Chandler) and his fabulous wife, Tami (Britton). For the first time in a while, we've seen the supportive coach's wife waver in her support. Maybe now is the time for her to pursue her own interests and career by leaving Texas. (I shout to the producers: "Don't split up the Taylors!") Their daughter, Julie, is at a crossroads. And Vince, Luke and the rest of the team are facing uncertain futures on and off the field. They have to conquer the state championship, but then they have to deal with becoming part of a new "super team" at their rival's school. The finale, fortunately, is 90 minutes long. So I will savor listening to that opening theme one last time. (Thanks to reader Kara who informed me that the music is by a cool Texas group called Explosions in the Sky.) And yes, my heart will be full, but my eyes may be a little teary. Friday, 8 p.m. NBC "POP UP VIDEO" VH1's series, which offers fun facts about music videos, is coming back in the fall. Before then, you can watch a marathon of classics on, you guessed it, VH1 Classic. Check it out Saturday starting at 2 p.m.

"PRIMETIME WITH DIANE SAWYER" The highly rated interview with Jaycee Dugard airs again Saturday. 9 p.m. ABC To see more of The Fayetteville Observer, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.fayettevillenc.com/.
