Dutch's Daughter restaurant opens

Jul 14, 2011 (The Frederick News-Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After 26 years in Frederick, Dutch's Daughter restaurant has expanded to Deep Creek Lake in Oakland.

Dutch's Daughter at Silver Tree opened Friday and has been busy ever since, co-owner Ilene Gideon said.

The new restaurant occupies the eatery section of the former Silver Tree Inn.

Gideon's decision to open the restaurant in Oakland was prompted by the fact that she was born in the area and the climate there.

"I also wanted to find a place that was cooler than Frederick in the summer and two very good friends of mine for many years, Phil and Erica Rauch, bought the place and we moved in," Gideon said. "Our intention is to buy the place from them in five years. We had dinner here 10 years ago and loved it." Dutch's Daughter at Silver Tree employs 60 workers and seats 290 guests between two levels and outdoor bar. The unfinished lower level will be finished, Gideon said.

Gideon said she's optimistic the new venture will be successful.

"I never think about failure. It's not in my vocabulary," Gideon said. "I've always been told to be honest, work hard, take chances and you'll succeed." Every employee is trained to be an advocate for the customer at her restaurants, Gideon said.

Frederick businessman De Willard told Gideon many years ago that problems are opportunities.

"And he was 100 percent right. He's a great man who's helped me for many, many years," Gideon said.

Meagan Till, who began working with Gideon at 14 years old, will manage the new restaurant.

"Meagan will be running the show. We're partnering together up here," Gideon said. "She's 25 years younger than I am. I'll be here parttime but I'm returning to Frederick."
