BRIEF: Two arrested after attempted cell phone robbery


Jul 08, 2011 (Inland Valley Daily Bulletin - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two people were arrested after they attempted to steal a cell phone from a man in Rancho Cucamonga Thursday.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy stopped at 11:17 p.m. in the area of Victoria Gardens Lane and Kew Avenue after seeing two people fighting. The deputy stopped and later learned a suspect met with the victim after the victim posted his cell phone for sale on craigslist, according to a sheriff's news release.

Once the two met, the suspect held the phone for several minutes before he ran off. The victim chased the suspect and the two began to fight. During the fight, a second suspect pulled up in a car. The first suspect shouted to him to get his gun, according to the release.

The victim was able to wrestle his phone from the suspect's hands before letting him go.


The two suspects were later identified as Manuel Abston, 22 and Robert Johnson, 22 both of Baldwin Park.

Deputies did not find a gun. Both men were arrested on suspicion of Robbery and booked at West Valley Detention Center.
