IN THE NEWS: SECURITY FLAWS SHOW UP IN APPLE MOBILE DEVICES SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ They are among the world's hottest tech toys: the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. And Apple says it's now working on a patch that will close a security hole in those devices _ one that could make them susceptible to hackers. A German security agency warned this week that there are flaws in the operating system for the mobile devices that could allow criminals to steal confidential data off the devices. The security agency says an attacker can get malware onto the devices by tricking owners into opening an infected PDF file. Apple says it will address the problem in an upcoming software upgrade _ but hasn't said when it will be available.

IN THE NEWS: CONTENT PROVIDERS TO WARN OF ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS WASHINGTON (AP) _ The companies that provide movies and music as well as Internet Service Providers have come up with a way to let people know if their online accounts are being used to access potentially pirated copyright works. The new ``copyright alerts'' is a collaboration between Hollywood studios, recording labels, artists and ISPs. If an account is used to, say, download something copyrighted off a peer-to-peer network or elsewhere, there will be a message that the download is suspect. ISP's will send similar alerts after getting the word from a copyright holder. Consumers who ignore the warnings could end up with slower Internet connections _ or be shunted off to a special website that provides information about the need to protect copyrights. However, ISPs won't be able to cut off a subscriber because of his or her activity _ or hand over subscriber names to copyright holders.

Cricket says its Muve Music service has reached the 100,000 subscriber mark. That's impressive, considering the service just began in January. Cricket is a prepaid wireless carrier _ and a prime choice for people who don't want to get tied down with long contracts. At the 100,000 subscriber mark, Muve is one of the top unlimited mobile music plans in the United States. And it's a rare success for the music industry, which is still reeling from a drop in CD sales and a struggle to sell music digitally.
