Last day to donate for El Paso Times Summer Fan DriveJul 08, 2011 (El Paso Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Today is the last day to donate fans for the El Paso Times Summer Fan Drive. The newspaper has received more than 35 fans that will be distributed to needy El Pasoans. Since the drive was launched last week, about 60 requests have come in for fans. The biggest contributor has been the El Paso Apartment Association, which donated 27 fans. "We read about it in the paper, and since we are connected with housing, it was a natural for us," said Jim Erickson, an association board member. Rick Soto, associate executive of the association, said he and his members got involved because it is important to give back to the community. "My daughter was diagnosed with lissencephaly and microcephaly, so she is prone to get pneumonia very easily, like the switch of a button," said Allen, who lives in East El Paso. "With the fan, we can keep her cool and my baby doesn't get sick. I am so thankful for the help." Paula Monarez Diaz may be reached at [email protected]; 546-6154.
