Listen Up - Call Control XML (CCXML) 1.0 Becomes a W3C Proposed Recommendation

Orlando, Florida, Jul 05, 2011 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Voxeo, a leading provider of IVR and VoIP platforms and services, is pleased to recognize that the W3C Voice Browser Working Group has published a formal Recommendation of CCXML Version 1.0 (Call Control eXtensible Markup Language). This is the final step in the W3C standards process and a major milestone for the CCXML standard, which will pave the way for standardized call control APIs and services.

Voxeo played a pivotal role in drafting the CCXML standard and moving it forward in the W3C working groups. Voxeo's Director of Speech Technologies, Dan Burnett, serves as Chair of the Voice Browser Working Group and Voxeo's Chief Technology Officer, RJ Auburn, serves as the CCXML subgroup Chair, which operates under the Voice Browser Working Group. Auburn in particular has been highly involved in the creation of CCXML, having driven it since early in its life.

"We are excited to reach this milestone for the CCXML standard," says Auburn. "We've been diligently working to reach this turning point and it gives us great satisfaction that the Voice Browser Working Group has published this W3C-recommended standard," adds Burnett.

Voxeo's CCXML engine was the first commercial implementation of CCXML and is today the most deployed CCXML engine in the world, having routed over 10 billion calls since its commercial introduction in 2002. Beyond supporting CCXML in all of its Prophecy hosting and premise products, Voxeo sells a C++ CCXML engine for OEMs to embed in their applications and has licensed it to major companies within the IVR and speech industries. Voxeo's CCXML engine was the first and remains the only engine to support 100% of the CCXML specification and pass the entire W3C test suite for CCXML.

CCXML is an XML-based markup language designed to add call control capabilities to telephony systems in a standardized way. With CCXML, the complex and rich interactions of phone systems can be described in a simple and easy to use format.

CCXML is designed to provide sophisticated telephony call control support for dialog systems, such as VoiceXML, and allows the development and control of advanced conferencing services, outbound and inbound calls and all types of call transfer. CCXML enables complex actions to be easily programmed, such as conditional acceptance of calls, various types of call transfer, advanced multi-party conferencing, and sophisticated multiple-call handling and control, including the management of proactive outbound calls.

With CCXML, developers and customers can confidently choose to use vendors who embrace open standards and interoperability.
