Golola Thumps Quadir to Claim Title

Jul 04, 2011 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- JUST 58 seconds into the second of the scheduled six rounds Sudanese Abdul Quadir lay belly-up close to his blue corner, motionless under the bright lights amidst loud chants by his tormenter Moses Golola's baying fans -and it was all over.

The taller but somewhat flabby Quadir (8 fights, 8 wins) had crashed into Golola's solid right that sent him into the ropes, bouncing off to the converse. The job Golola had been training for since April was finished-just simply like that. The Ugandan registered his 14th knock victory in 19 fights.

And if you thought comical Golola who boasted that he could hang clothes on an MTN line and tear pages out of facebook was crazy, then his passionate fans were more than crazy.

Within no time the ring was filled with jubilant Golola fans despite the MC, Roger Mugisha pleading with them not to invade the ring. When calm was restored after 14 minutes, fans called for Golola to be handed the microphone so he entertains them with his funny rhetoric. Some fans were dissatisfied with the brief show as is always the case in 'no contests'.

"Ladies and gentlemen I am so happy that what I promised has happen in record time. I told you that I am not paid for overtime and I finished the job in time because I am not a joking subject. I don't want to talk too much because power (electricity) will even go off," Golola said before he was handed the World Kickboxing Federation (Africa) middleweight belt.

Earlier on Golola had thrice knocked down Quadir with mid-body butting kicks in the first round, much to the excitement of his multitude of fans, some of whom kept sharing fight updates with friends on facebook, twitter and mobile phone text messages. The victory earned Golola a slot in the Africa Kickboxing Cup due in October in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Quadir immediately asked for a rematch with Golola in Juba, Southern Sudan.
