[July 04, 2011] BRIEF: Murphy School principal leaving for a new post Tweet Montville, Jun 21, 2011 (The Day - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Charles E. Murphy School will need a new principal in the coming weeks. Current principal Jeff Newton confirmed today that he has accepted a position as director of special services in Westbrook Public Schools. Newton has been the Murphy School principal for six years. Prior to coming to Montville Public Schools, Newton worked as a special education teacher in Norwich Public Schools and at Norwich Free Academy. He spent one year as an assistant principal in Montville before taking the principal job with the K-5 Murphy School. Newton, 38, said leaving his position will be bittersweet. "It's a great place and that's what makes it so difficult to leave," he said. "It's a caring group of individuals that I'll miss dearly." Newton's last day at the Murphy School will be June 30. Superintendent of Schools Pamela Aubin said the opening has been advertised online and applicants have started to submit their materials for consideration. Aubin said she hopes a hire is made by early August, which would put the new principal in place for the start of the school year.
