BRIEF: Azerbaijan opens first digital signature center

Jul 01, 2011 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry are ensuring communication between state establishments under the "Electronic Government" state program, Communications Deputy and IT Minister Elmir Velizade said on Friday.

He said 50 information registries operate in Azerbaijan today, most in an electronic form. This, he said, will speed up the process of interaction.

The presence of a certified center for issuing e-digital signature (EDS), which has already begun operations, is an important aspect, Velizade said.

The Economic Development Ministry has also applied for a signature. EDS will be used in the Ministry's e- control system.

Another important issue is the creation of a single "Electronic Government" portal, with work in the final stage. Its presence will greatly simplify interaction between citizens and state agencies, Velizade said.
