BRIEF: Azerbaijani population's demand for non-food products increases in AzerbaijanJul 01, 2011 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Since 1995, the Azerbaijani population's demand for non-food products has been increasing in Azerbaijan, State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Veliyev said in his speech at a scientific symposium on Thursday. "If in 1995, 25 percent of consumer goods purchased by the population in trade shops accounted for non-food products, in 2010 this figure was about 40 percent," Veliyev said. He said that in 2010 the population purchased mainly clothing, footwear, electronics, computer equipment, construction materials, vehicles and other non-food products. "It is evidence of improvements in the quality of the population's life", Veliyev said. He said in 2010 the population bought consumer goods worth 13.7 billion manat, which exceeded the figure in 1993 by 4.8 times.
