FBI searches for suspects in bank robberiesJun 03, 2011 (Charleston Daily Mail - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Authorities are seeking the public's help in finding suspects involved in recent bank robberies including one man who may have hit federal credit unions in South Charleston and Barboursville. Joe Ciccarelli, the FBI's supervisory senior resident agent in charge, issued a press release Thursday afternoon asking for the public's help in finding individuals involved in recent bank robberies. The federal agency is working with local agencies on several robberies including two that have occurred within the last week. South Charleston Detective C.A. Cook said his office has been working closely with the FBI on last Thursday's robbery at Pioneer Federal Credit Union on MacCorkle Avenue. The FBI also is looking into Wednesday's robbery at Universal Credit Union at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville, according to the press statement. Cook said detectives are "fairly certain" the man who robbed the Universal Credit Union in Barboursville is the same man who robbed the Pioneer Federal Credit Union in South Charleston last Thursday. "We had a meeting with Barboursville a little while ago and we're fairly certain it's the same guy in both of these instances," Cook said. "He's using the same folder and it's the same getaway vehicle. "If you line up the surveillance videos it looks like the same man in the images." The man, who has yet to be identified, walked into Pioneer Federal Credit Union on MacCorkle Avenue last Thursday afternoon and presented the teller with a black folder containing a note. Detectives said the note informed the teller of the robbery and demanded cash in large denominations. No weapon was shown. The man then fled on foot and removed the blue polo-style shirt he had been wearing. Cook said he left the area in a dark colored Ford Explorer that had been parked behind the Pella Window store. Cook said the situation was similar at the Universal Credit Union in Barboursville. Detectives in Barboursville were not available for comment Thursday afternoon. The FBI also is looking into a May 16 robbery at the BB&T Bank branch on Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington. A white male was the suspect in that incident. The agency also is looking into the March 8 robbery at Blennerhassett Federal Credit Union in Vienna and the January 20 robbery at City National Bank on U.S. 60 East in Huntington. Agents also are assisting in the investigation of the April 30, 2010 robbery that occurred at Chase Bank at the Shops at Kanawha in Charleston. Ciccarelli said agents are working closely with local police agencies to find and capture the robbers. Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency or the nearest FBI office. The Charleston FBI office can be reached at 304-346-3232.
