Windows Phone Hits 25k Applications [T-break Tech (Middle East)]

(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Windows Marketplace now features more than 25k applications, trackers are claiming. According to Windows Phone App List, an applications tracker the Marketplace now has 25,015 apps. Another tracker quotes a figure slightly below the 25k mark.

However, there is simply no debate that in sheer numbers, WP7 has a lot of catching up to do. At last months Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple said it had 425,000 Apps available.  At Google's I/O Conference in May, the company said there are 200,000  Apps on its Android Market.

But the new platform is catching on fast. Microsoft says it now has over 40,000 Windows Phone application developers, who deliver an average of 100 new apps per day. Microsoft says that its happy with fewer numbers of Apps, and touts the "Quality over quantity" paradigm. They have to show a brave face in any case.

Developers have a lot to look forward to this year. Microsoft's new partnership with Nokia is a great opportunity for new and existing developers, as more and more consumers will look to move to Windows Phone. Windows Phones latest "Mango" update, the codename for what will likely be named Windows Phone 7.5, is currently in the final development stages at Microsoft. The software giant revealed a number of new forthcoming enhancements in the update recently and promised over 500 features at launch.

Nokia has also promised a batch of Windows Phone devices, due later in this year. For our news on the leaked Nokia WP7 prototype, go here.
