BRIEF: New UM basketball coach to speak at Summer Basketball League clinic

Jun 12, 2011 (The Miami Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- New University of Miami mens' basketball coach Jim Larranaga will introduce himself to the South Florida high school basketball community Sunday at 3 p.m. when he serves as the keynote speaker for the T.O.C Inc. Summer Basketball League coaches' clinic at the Miramar Youth Enrichment Center.

Local coaches have lamented the inability of the Hurricanes to lure home grown stars such as Brandon Knight, Kenny Boynton Jr., Tim Hardaway Jr., and 7-0 center Adrian Diaz, to Coral Gables. That could change under Larranaga, who led George Mason to five tournament appearances, including a cinderella-like run to the Final Four in 2006.

The clinic serves as the kickoff for the Summer League, which runs June 25-30 at Miami Northwestern and Miami Central High Schools.
