[June 29, 2011] BRIEF: Schools chief Comeau announces retirement Tweet Jun 28, 2011 (Anchorage Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Carol Comeau, superintendent of Anchorage schools since 2000, announced Tuesday she is retiring in a year. Comeau, 69, said she loves the job but that it's time to go. "Last time I visited the grandchildren in Washington, I realized how much of their lives I've missed. And I thought, 'This is really crazy.' That was kind of the last nail," Comeau said. Comeau has been one of the city's longest-serving superintendents. Before becoming superintendent, she was an elementary school teacher, principal and central office administrator in Anchorage.
