Mystery Man Silent in Missing Student CaseJun 27, 2011 (WPIX-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- BLOOMINGTON, In -- "Jay Rosenbaum Needs to Talk." That's the headline on one of several blogs online, seeking information about the disappearance of 20-year-old Indiana University college student, Lauren Spierer, a native of Scarsdale, New York. Jay Rosenbaum, 21, claims to be the last person who saw Spierer walking away on a dark street inBloomington at 4:30 am on June 3rd, before she vanished into the night. Since then, he's "lawyered up"--hiring the highest-profile defense attorney in the state of Indiana. Spierer's family friends say he's ignored the parents' pleas for information, but on Monday, Rosenbaum's attorney--James Voyles--shot back, "He has provided full statements to the police and passed a polygraph that has also been provided to the authorities. Mr. Rosenbaum hopes for nothing less than Lauren to be found and to be safe." The petite, blonde fashion student disappeared after a night of partying with friends at various locations in Bloomington, including a sports bar--where she left her shoes and cell phone. Along the way, she lost her keys, before ending up at Jay Rosenbaum's apartment complex. A white pick-up truck is seen on surveillance tape circling around Rosenbaum's building at 4:14 am on June 3rd. One report says a call was made from Rosenbaum's cell phone at 4:15 am. Rosenbaum claimed that Spierer walked away from his building around 4:30 am, but there's no surveillance video to back that up. Spierer's parents, Robert and Charlene, have been in Bloomington for nearly a month now, and in recent press conferences, Lauren's mother expressed disappointment at the lack of help from her daughter's friends: "Only one of Lauren's friends have called the police department," Charlene Spierer lamented. The Internet blogs have been full of speculation about Lauren Spierer's possible fate. There is talk about the partying among university students and reports of bad ecstasy that was going around. Lauren Spierer has a heart condition that requires medication. On the Spierers' family street in Scarsdale today, a neighbor who happens to be a former homicide prosecutor said it "spoke volumes" that Jay Rosenbaum has hired a top defense attorney. "It indicates to me, you know, he likely has some kind of information," Troy Smith told PIX 11. " I'm not saying he's necessarily a suspect, but that's just the way we, as a people, think. Why wouldn't he come forward with information?" Spierer's long-time boyfriend, Jesse Wolff, of Port Washington, Long Island, has also retained counsel. Rosenbaum, meantime, has shut down his Facebook page, even as there's chatter about him all over the Internet. To see more of WPIX-TV, go to http://www.wpix.com/.
