Midtown Workers Shocked to Learn about "F_CK TH_E POLI_C_". Sign

SACRAMENTO, Jun 27, 2011 (KTXL-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Workers in Midtown Sacramento, Monday, were shocked to learn what crept into their neighborhood over the weekend. A sign that consisted of a bed sheet and black tape with the message, "F_CK TH_ POL_C_." The sign hung above a new restaurant at 19th and J streets, Sunday. The restaurant, The Garlic Shack, is set to open next week.

"Three days after the place was painted, it was vandalized with graffiti, so this area is just prone to having graffiti and a little vandalism," said Ken Powers, General Manager of The Garlic Shack. He wasn't too disturbed by it but at the same time can't wait to hang out his own new banner announcing his new restaurant.

The sign was discovered Sunday morning and by afternoon a Sacramento Police officer went up on the roof to remove it. The officer said the property owner asked that it be taken down. The Sacramento Police Department isn't devoting any resources to investigate who did it because it amounts to a misdemeanor charge and it doesn't have the resources.

Workers in the area seemed to be more upset by it than officers. "The police in this neighborhood are very cool. They take care of the businesses around here," said Craig Pelusi of Italian Importing. "We know them personally. I hate to see stuff like that." Area businesses do have surveillance cameras and some workers have said they'll scan surveillance tape to see if they can spot anything suspicious.

As for the sign, a spokeswoman for the Sacramento Police Department said it was likely booked as evidence as possibly vandalism.
