ZELTIQ™ Announces Recent Leadership Appointments


PLEASANTON, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

ZELTIQ, a global medical technology company that developed the patented, non-invasive, and clinically proven CoolSculpting® Procedure to selectively eliminate diet- and exercise-resistant fat bulges, today announced recent leadership appointments to its management team.

"We began 2011 focused on strategies to continue the growth of our patented CoolSculpting technology," stated Gordie Nye, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZELTIQ. "A key ingredient was the filling-out of our leadership team, which is now complete with five recent appointments that I am very pleased to announce."

Three of the five appointments will report directly to Mr. Nye on the Executive Management team.

  • Ian West, Ph.D., FIET, joins ZELTIQ as Vice President of Product Development. Dr. West brings over 20 years of R&D management experience to the company, with a demonstrated record of building teams and processes to ensure exceptional product quality and performance. Prior to joining ZELTIQ, Dr. West was in senior management positions with Philips (News - Alert) Healthcare - OEM Monitoring, GE Healthcare - Monitoring Solutions, and Critikon LLC (previously Critikon, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc.). Dr. West earned his Ph.D. in Engineering at the University of Liverpool UK, where he also earned his B.Eng. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK).

  • Kristine Tatsutani, Ph.D., joins ZELTIQ as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Enhanced Clinical Outcomes (ECO). Dr. Tatsutani is a highly accomplished research scientist and clinical affairs leader, and holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering, specializing in cryobiology. Prior to joining ZELTIQ, Dr. Tatsutani was Vice President, Clinical and Scientific Development at MyoScience. She held scientific and clinical leadership positions at Boston Scientific and CryoVascular Systems. Dr. Tatsutani earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.

  • Sue Poinsett has been appointed to Director of Quality Assurance. Ms. Poinsett brings over 20 years of advanced quality leadership in medical devices to ZELTIQ. Prior to her appointment as Director, Ms. Poinsett served as QA consultant with the company. She held management positions with Greer Laboratories, Inc. and Allermed Laboratories, Inc. Her quality expertise also spans Critikon, LLC and "A" Company Orthodontics. Ms. Poinsett's early career as quality supervisor of chemistry and microbiology laboratories at Wesley Jessen, and as an accomplished microbiologist at Molecular Biosystems, Analytical Luminiscence Labs and Gillette positioned her well for her roles in quality management. Ms. Poinsett holds an M.S. in Food Biotechnology and B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Minnesota.

In addition to the three appointments to the Executive Management team, ZELTIQ also welcomes two key leaders in field sales and clinical management.


  • Alesia Jackson joins ZELTIQ as Western Region Sales Director, reporting to Dave Heagy, Vice President of North American Sales. Ms. Jackson's career spans over 15 years in sales and marketing, most recently with Covidien as Director of National Accounts - Strategic Partnerships. She also held marketing and sales positions with Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics (a Johnson & Johnson Company) and Critikon, LLC. Ms. Jackson holds an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix and a B.A. from the University of South Carolina.

  • Kerrie Jiang was named Director of Clinical Development at ZELTIQ, reporting to Dr. Tatsutani. Ms. Jiang brings a solid record of excellence in clinical investigation to ZELTIQ, in addition to her extensive experience in aesthetic medicine. Prior to joining the company, Ms. Jiang held senior level clinical management positions with Solta Medical where she was instrumental in directing the clinical investigations leading to the launches of Fraxel Re-Store DUAL and Thermage CPT. During her tenure with Reliant Technologies, Ms. Jiang oversaw the clinical investigation of the first fractional skin resurfacing lasers in their class: the nonablative Fraxel re:store, and the ablative Fraxel re:pair Ms. Jiang is a licensed Nurse Practitioner and Certified Clinical Research Professional; she also holds a M.S. in Nursing from the University of Tennessee.
