Gear: Headwrap protects your skull from UV rays

Jun 29, 2011 (McClatchy-Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune News Service via COMTEX) -- Whether it's biking, hiking, swimming or running, getting outdoors to exercise is great for both the body and the mind. But being in the sun also means exposure to UV rays, which are a primary cause of skin cancer, according to the World Health Organization.

Sunscreen can help protect your skin, but it still leaves the most vulnerable parts of your head susceptible to burn. Instead of a bulky hat, try Buff's High UV Protection headwrap. It's versatile _ use it as a bandana, scarf, headband, mask, neckerchief, hat or even ponytail holder _ and is made from a material that blocks up to 95 percent of UV rays. It is made of sports fabric that also wicks sweat and contains an active-odor control that resists odor-causing bacteria, keeping you cool, dry and fresh for any outdoor activity.

Wrap is seamless to avoid irritation. It maintains its elasticity through wear and comes in a variety of patterns and colors that won't fade or bleed. It is machine washable, iron-free and unisex. Measures approximately 21 x 9.5 inches. One size fits most.

Multiple colors and smaller junior size are also available. Price is $23. See Buff's USA website for online store and list of retailers, www.buffusa.com.
