Chairman Roy Bostock sought to defuse speculation that CEO Carol Bartz's job is in danger with a ringing endorsement of her performance at the Internet company's annual shareholders Thursday. "This board is very supportive of Carol and this management team," Bostock said in his opening remarks. "We are confident that Yahoo is headed in the right direction." Viacom sues Cablevision over iPad video appNEW YORK (AP) _ Viacom, the owner of MTV, Comedy Central and other television channels, is suing cable TV distributor Cablevision over an iPad app that Viacom says streams video of its channels without permission. Viacom Inc. is seeking an injunction to stop Cablevision from infringing on its copyright. It filed the lawsuit Thursday morning in New York.

Ruling awaited in Kodak patent battle with AppleROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) _ After years of wading through a tide of red ink, Eastman Kodak Co. is nearing the end of a potentially lucrative patent fight with tech giants Apple and Research in Motion Ltd. The U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington is expected to issue a ruling Thursday on Kodak's complaint that its 2001 image-preview patent was infringed by iPhone behemoth Apple Inc., of Cupertino, Calif., and Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry.

Biggest 2 Australian telcos join broadband rolloutCANBERRA, Australia (AP) _ Australia's two largest telecommunications companies signed lucrative deals with the government to join the rollout of a fiber optic national broadband network that will be among the world's fastest. Telstra Corp. and Optus Pty. Ltd. _ which combined represent 60 percent of Australia's retail broadband market, signed separate deals with the government Thursday to close down their own infrastructures and transfer customers to the national broadband network, known as the NBN.


Harry Potter wizard series to be sold as e-booksLONDON (AP) _ Harry Potter battled the forces of evil and now is set to conquer the web _ coming to e-books in a groundbreaking deal that has delighted fans but alarmed the book industry that helped make creator J.K. Rowling a billionaire. Rowling announced Thursday that her seven novels about the boy wizard will be sold for the first time as e-books, beginning in October, exclusively through a new online portal to her wizarding world called "Pottermore." Twins drop Facebook lawsuit detailed in hit movieSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The Harvard University classmates of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg are ending the legal battle made famous by the Hollywood movie "The Social Network." In a one-paragraph court filing Wednesday, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss said they would accept a settlement that was worth $65 million when agreed upon in 2008.

Apple removes anti-Israel app from App StoreSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Apple Inc. says it has removed an application called "ThirdIntifada" from its App Store following complaints that it glorified violence against Israel. Israel's information minister, Yuli Edelstein, requested the company remove the app in an email he sent to Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Jewish human rights group The Simon Wiesenthal Center also complained to Apple.

Sony Ericsson eyes Android market with new phonesSINGAPORE (AP) _ Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson unveiled two new Android models Wednesday in a bid to grab more of the burgeoning smartphone market. The company, a joint venture between L.M. Ericsson and Sony Corp., plans to launch the Xperia ray and Xperia active models during the third quarter, Chief Marketing Officer Steve Walker announced in Singapore.

Wyo. turns to Google for gov't computing servicesCHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ Wyoming has become the first state to begin using a suite of cloud computing tools from Google for its entire executive branch of government, allowing data and applications to be stored on remote servers and accessed over the Internet. New technologies enabled by Google Apps for Government include desk-to-desk video conferencing and live online collaboration while creating documents.
