SmarTrend Midday Market Recap -- June 21, 2011 (DJI,INX,IXIC)

Jun 21, 2011 (SmarTrend(R) Market Commentary via COMTEX) -- Last updated June 21, 2011: 12:30 PM ET --- The major U.S. equity indices are trading higher as investors bet Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou will win a confidence vote later today, overlooking weak U.S. housing data.

International markets appeared confident that Papandreou would survive the vote after reshuffling his cabinet last week in an effort to win support for unpopular, additional austerity measures.

Sales of existing homes fell 3.81% to an annual rate of 4.81 million, seasonally adjusted, from the revised 5 million in April, the National Association of Realtors reported today, above the 4.79 million rate economists had expected. From May of 2010 however, that represents a fairly steep 15% decline.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is trading 0.91% higher at 12,190.81, the S&P500 (INX) is trading 1.20% higher at 1,293.64, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is trading 1.80% higher at 2,677.24.
