White Sox may play Dunn in left

PHOENIX, Jun 17, 2011 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune News Service via COMTEX) -- The possibility of Adam Dunn playing left field in National League parks resurfaced, as the White Sox's designated hitter took some flies and worked in the outfield during batting practice before Friday night's game.

"I think in Colorado we might have to (start him in left)," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We are going to send him out there to take some fly balls and make sure we can get him some at-bats in Colorado. This trip is too early to put him out there." Guillen said the possible move wasn't caused by the defensive woes of left fielder Juan Pierre.

"It's just in case we need (Dunn) to play the outfield, just in case we need him to get more at-bats," Guillen said. "It's nothing about Juan. Juan has been streaky this year. He was struggling early, and then he got really hot, and then he struggled again. But he will come out of that. The only reason to put Dunn out there is just in case we need him or we have to get him more at-bats." Dunn hasn't played left field since 2009 with Washington.

___ Extra innings Former Sox slugger Jermaine Dye visited his former teammates before Friday night's game. Dye, who starred for the Sox from 2005-10, lives in Scottsdale and said he's enjoying coaching his two sons' team with former major league player Rich Aurilia as well as golfing.

Reliever Will Ohman and conditioning director Allen Thomas were engaged in an argument about 3 { hours before the game that could be seen and heard from the Chase Field press box.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday's game between the Cubs and Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
