Serious Energy Customers Have Headstart in ISO 50001 Certification

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Serious Energy announced today that its SeriousEnergy Manager enterprise energy efficiency management platform fully supports ISO 50001, the international standard for energy management released this week by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The new standard presupposes the use of an Energy Management System (EMS) for continuous energy usage monitoring, metrics and performance management in buildings. ISO 50001 provides a framework for energy management for commercial, institutional, and governmental facilities, industrial plants, and corporate organizations - large and small. Due to its broad applicability, ISO estimates that the standard could influence up to 60% of the world's energy use.

"The launch of this standard is an inflection point along a curve we know well because it's an echo of what happened with quality management and ISO 9000 decades ago," explained Mark Mitchell, Senior VP and General Manager of Serious Energy. "It's well documented that ISO 9001 certified companies are better financial performers with higher ROA than non-certified competitors. Among corporations with any knowledge of ISO history, there should be a stampede toward ISO 50001 certification and better energy management. We have been working in collaboration with our system integrator and building automation gateway partners to deliver SeriousEnergy Manager at a price point and with the robust implementation and ongoing services that make it attractive to the wide swath of building owners and propety managers that will be pursuing certification."

A secure cloud-based platform, SeriousEnergy Manager gives building owners and property managers real-time access to always-on analytics and control to continuously optimize and cut energy usage in commercial buildings. Customers have reported energy usage and cost reductions of 5% to 30% (results can vary by building type, location, and other factors), resulting in rapid payback of 6 - 24 months and ongoing measurement and verification of energy efficiency improvements. With SeriousEnergy Manager, facility teams play an increasingly strategic role as part of the real estate equation, delivering energy savings, tenant, and occupant satisfaction in ways that can ultimately create more valuable buildings for both building owners and the people who occupy them.

SeriousEnergy Manager features that support ISO 50001-requisite activities include support for analyzing energy usage across multiple energy sources (Section 4.4.3); generating reports based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like electricity usage, peak demand, energy costs (Section 4.4.5); forecasting energy consumption (Section 4.4.3 a); identifying, recording and prioritizing opportunities for improving energy performance (Section 4.4.3c); and capturing energy baselines including setting new baselines per each consecutive energy conservation measure (Section 4.4.4). The ISO website now offers a brochure about ISO 50001 along with online ordering information for the new standard's actual guidelines and requirements.
