TVA senior VP of communications David Mould resigns abruptly

Jun 16, 2011 (The Knoxville News-Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- One of TVA's top executives abruptly resigned Wednesday without explanation.

The public utility issued a brief statement saying David Mould had resigned from his position as senior vice president of communications, a position that pays $276,060 a year.

No reason was given for his resignation. A TVA spokesperson referred questions to Mould, who could not immediately be reached for comment.

But he told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that he "leaves with great respect for everyone at TVA" and is looking at other options.

Kim Greene, TVA's group president for strategy and external relations, said she will temporarily direct communications while TVA looks for Mould's successor.

"I appreciate David's contributions to TVA. His experience in media relations and the utility industry have helped us strengthen our staff and our outreach to TVA's stakeholders," Greene said in a statement.

Mould joined the federal utility in July 2009 as senior vice president of communications, a new post created by TVA's board as part of a reorganization of the utility's communications and government relations functions.

Prior to his hiring, the utility's communications and government relations functions were performed by one division.

Before joining NASA in 2005, Mould was special assistant to the U.S. secretary of energy and previously was vice president of communications for PG&E National Energy Group, a wholesale electricity and gas development subsidiary of PG&E Corp.

He also worked in corporate communications with Southern Co., the investor-owned utility holding company and its subsidiary Mirant Corp. He also previously was a managing editor for United Press International.

Assistant business editor Roger Harris may be reached at 865-342-6342. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
