International Business Machines turns 100 on Thursday without much fanfare. But its much younger competitors owe a lot to Big Blue.

APNewsBreak: Assange says WikiLeaks work hamperedLONDON (AP) _ After six months under virtual house arrest, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange acknowledged Thursday that his detention is hampering the work of the secret-spilling site. His supporters accused Britain of subjecting him to "excessive and dehumanizing" treatment. The 39-year-old Australian is living at a supporter's rural estate as he fights extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over claims of rape and sexual molestation made by two women.

Nielsen: Online video viewers watch less TVLOS ANGELES (AP) _ Americans who watch the most video online tend to watch less TV, according to The Nielsen Co., a finding that overturns a longstanding belief that people are watching more programming over all devices. The ratings agency said Wednesday that starting last fall, it noticed a segment of consumers who were starting to make a trade-off between online video and regular TV. The activity was more pronounced among people ages 18-34.


Citigroup says 218,000 affected by hackersHONG KONG (AP) _ Hackers stole information for 360,000 Citigroup Inc. U.S. credit card accounts in a recent data breach, although the actual number of customers affected was not much higher than originally reported, the bank said Wednesday. Citi said last week that about 1 percent of its credit card customers had account information hacked online but did not say exactly how many. The actual number of customers affected was thought to be about 210,000, based on Citi's 2010 annual report, which said the company had roughly 21 million North American credit card customers.

Young Pakistanis blog, tweet to push for changeKARACHI, Pakistan (AP) _ Meet Pakistan's "Teeth Maestro," a dentist who uses his blog to get to the root of the country's many pains. One day it might be trigger-happy soldiers. Another day it's corrupt bureaucrats. Sometimes, it's U.S. meddling. The Teeth Maestro is among a growing group of bloggers, tweeters and others using the Web to influence Pakistani society and government.

Report: Facebook users more trusting, engagedNEW YORK (AP) _ A new survey is countering views that social networks isolate people. According to the study from the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project, Facebook users are more trusting, have more close friends and get more social support than their non-networked counterparts.

Pandora gains point to healthy Internet IPO futureSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Internet radio station Pandora Media's IPO struck the right chord with investors Wednesday despite the static in the overall stock market. Pandora's shares surged by as much 63 percent in their market debut before pulling back later in the session. The stock closed at $17.42, still a decent gain amid the market's broader decline. It marked a 9 percent increase from Pandora's initial public offering price of $16 and a nearly six-fold increase from what Pandora's own board thought the stock was worth just six months ago.

LightSquared gets extension for GPS test resultsWASHINGTON (AP) _ Federal regulators have granted a Virginia company called LightSquared a two-week extension to report on recent tests that aimed to determine whether its proposed high-speed wireless broadband network would cripple GPS systems around the country. A technical working group created to study the extent of potential interference from LightSquared's proposed network was to report its findings on Wednesday to the Federal Communications Commission.

Hackers wreak havoc on Malaysian gov't websitesKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ Hackers have disrupted dozens of Malaysian state-linked websites to protest a government crackdown on entertainment piracy. Malaysia's communications regulator says 51 websites have suffered cyber-attacks since around midnight Thursday. Some of them were inaccessible for hours, but officials indicated that no confidential data was compromised.

HP sues Oracle as tech big shots' animosity growsSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Hewlett-Packard Co. has sued its friend-turned-foe Oracle Corp. in another sign of how badly the relationship between the information technology big shots has frayed. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court, accuses Oracle of behaving illegally in deciding that future versions of its database software won't support a particular line of HP servers. Those servers use a chip called Itanium that Oracle insists is being phased out, a claim the chip's maker, Intel Corp., denies.
