US regulators want Citi to reveal details on hacker attackJun 15, 2011 (CORPORATE IT UPDATE via COMTEX) -- 15 June 2011 -- US regulators have called on Citigroup (NYSE:C) to provide details of its security policy after hackers gained access to information on hundreds of thousands of credit card holders and raised serious alarm about online data protection, the Financial Times reported. The Connecticut attorney-general requested on Monday details from City on the extent of the security breach and demanded evidence to support the bank's claim that similar attacks can be avoided in the future. The US authorities said the method used by the hackers to break into Citi's network was new and there were concerns that other financial institutions might be at risk too. An investigator said that the US Department of Homeland Security has launched an investigation into the attack and is mulling over whether alerting other institutions about the new infiltration method. A person familiar with the matter said hackers exploited a flaw in the Java programming language to break into one of Citi's consumer banking websites that is based on Oracle database software.
