Free mobile-phone service available for hearing-impaired [The Pueblo Chieftain, Colo.]

(Pueblo Chieftain (CO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 13--Hamilton CapTel is a free 24/7 service that delivers real-time, word-for-word transcriptions of phone calls for the hearing-impaired -- similar to captions on a television. CapTel previously has been available for home and business users on specially equipped, traditional counter-top telephones.

CapTel is now available on an expanding list of devices from traditional phones, computers and mobile phones, including Android, Blackberry and iOS. A complete list of compatible handsets and networks is available at http://ht.ly/582Pc.

In order to use the CapTel Mobile service, you must have an account with Hamilton Web CapTel, a compatible smartphone with both voice and data service, and a hands-free headset that works with hearing aids or cochlear implants. You can sign up for an account at http://ht.ly/582sw.

"We are dedicated to delivering technologically advanced solutions that are easily accessible to individuals who experience hearing loss. More importantly, users now have the ability to place and receive phone calls away from their home or office," said Dixie Ziegler, vice president of Hamilton Relay, provider of Hamilton Mobile CapTel service. "With the introduction of this new app, Hamilton Mobile CapTel is now compatible with even more smartphones -- Android, BlackBerry and iPhone. We are excited about more people having access to Hamilton Mobile CapTel, as more platforms are now available.

"The development of the Hamilton Mobile CapTel App for Android marks an incredible milestone for us. There are nearly 36 million individuals in the U.S. who experience hearing loss, and the addition of the Hamilton Mobile CapTel App for Android means that more of those individuals will be able to get back in the conversation." The application screens are straightforward. To get started with the mobile application, you must first enter your account information. To place a call, you simply enter the number you are calling and then click the large, green call button. To receive calls, the caller must first dial a toll-free number, then your mobile phone number, followed by the # sign.

Hamilton Mobile CapTel works on 3G, 4G or WiFi connections and can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace: http://ht.ly/583Yx; The Apple AppStore: http://ht.ly/583WJ; or Blackberry World http://ht.ly/583TU.
