Malaysia seeks to ban sites for illegal downloadsKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) _ Thousands of Malaysians joined an online protest Sunday against a government effort to block access to 10 popular websites often used to illegally download movies, TV shows and music. It is the biggest move to curb Internet entertainment piracy in Malaysia, which has long been accused by industry officials of not cracking down hard enough on the rampant sale of bootleg DVDs and CDs. RIM shareholder calls for separate CEO, chairmanNEW YORK (AP) _ BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. is already struggling to keep up with rivals such as Apple Inc. Now it faces another challenge: dissident shareholders who are calling for changes in how the company is run. A Canadian investment firm is calling for RIM to separate the roles of CEO and chairman, saying that's vital for the board to be able to do its job. Shareholder-rights groups often support separating the two positions. A board of directors is tasked with overseeing the CEO, which can be difficult if the CEO is also chairman of the board. Tests show wireless network could jam GPS systemsWASHINGTON (AP) _ New government test results show that a proposed high-speed wireless broadband network being launched by a company called LightSquared could jam GPS systems used for aviation, public safety, military operations and other uses. The results released this week by a federal working group come amid mounting concern that LightSquared's planned network could cripple GPS systems embedded throughout the nation's infrastructure. And they raise questions about whether the government will allow LightSquared to turn its network on as scheduled next year. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed most of a recent Federal Communications Commission decision to close the so-called "terrestrial loophole" in a 1992 cable law. Spain nabs 3 suspected of global cyber attacksMADRID (AP) _ Spanish police have arrested three suspected computer hackers who allegedly belonged to a loose-knit international activist group that attacked corporate and government websites around the world, authorities said Friday. National Police identified the three as leaders of the Spanish section of a group that calls itself "Anonymous."
