[June 10, 2011] Alaska releases 24,000 Sarah Palin emails Tweet WASHINGTON, Jun 10, 2011 (dpa - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The state of Alaska on Friday released 24,000 emails exchanges involving former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, covering the short period that she was governor of the northern state. The release was a response to freedom-of-information requests by US media. Palin, who is keeping the country guessing about whether she will bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, resigned as Alaska governor in July 2009, little more than half way through her four-year term. She has since pursued a national constituency and bought a second house in Arizona. Reporters from leading US newspapers are in the state capital, Juneau, going through the email printouts and scanning them for posting online. Alaska did not release them in digital form. Palin and her family are in the midst of a national bus tour that took her to New Hampshire last week, the first state to hold a party primary election in the 2012 race, fueling speculation she will bid for the party's nomination. Her supporters held a picnic for her in New Hampshire the same day former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney was in the state announcing his presidential candidacy. Speaking in advance about the email release, Palin told Fox News that she was sure "people are going to capitalize on this opportunity ... and perhaps take things out of context." "They'll never truly know what the context of each one of the issues were that I was working on that day, or in that time period," she said.
