Charter raising ratesJun 10, 2011 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Cable and Internet customers of Charter Communications can expect to see their bills go up $4 when their bills arrive next month. The Town & Country, Mo.-based cable and Internet provider is raising its rates to keep up with the cost of business, a company spokeswoman said. Senior manager of communications Jessica Myers said the Expanded Cable and Basic/Expanded Cable Services monthly rates will rise $4 each. Expanded Cable Service customers will see a rate increase of $32 to $36, and Basic/Expanded Cable Service customers can expect to see a rate hike of $56.99 to $60.99. The Sports View Tier customers will see rates double from $5 to $10 per month, and the modem-rental fee for Internet customers is increasing from $5 to $7. "The content that comes across your TV screen from various networks, we have to purchase that content" Myers said. "When we are able to bring in more content than anyone else, that is something we are glad to do for the community." Myers said these rate hikes come after the company had added 25 more HD channels since the beginning of the year. In January, Charter added nine new HD channels for local customers and introduced 14 more high-definition stations this past spring. The new added channels are Versus HD, FX HD, the Big Ten Network HD, Speed HD, VH1 HD, MTV HD, Spike HD, ABC Family HD and Nickelodeon HD. "For us, the key is the fact we've been able to bring a lot of new services and continue to for customers," Myers said. "We're very excited to be able to do that. Unfortunately, we did have to make a price adjustment to our service." Contact reporter Will Buss at [email protected] or 239-2526..
