BRIEF: Jail lockdown lifted; cell doors repaired (updated 3:20 p.m.)

GULFPORT, Jun 10, 2011 (The Sun Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A lockdown imposed at the Harrison County jail was lifted at noon today after repairs were made to cell doors damaged by up inmates, Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said.

The jail was locked down Thursday night, meaning inmates were not allowed to mingle, have visitors or make phone calls. The lockdown was ordered after some cell doors were damaged.

"It happens every couple of months," Brisolara said. "Inmates use some type of object to jam their cell doors and they teach others how to do it, and we have to lock them all down until we can get a maintenance crew in to fix it.
