Jun 10, 2011 (Mass Media Distribution LLC via COMTEX) -- In 2009, Seun Adebiyi, a Nigerian Yale Law graduate at 26 was diagnosed with leukemia, while training for the 2014 Olympic Winter games. Born in Nigeria, Seun moved to Alabama at the age of six years old. His life-long childhood dream has been to compete in the Olympics. "Competing in the Olympics has been a life-long dream of mine. Simply the act of pursuing of this ambition has been extremely fulfilling", says Seun. Brett and Shana met Seun in December 2009 and hosted Seun's first bone marrow drive in Harlem in February 2010. The Melius' continued to support Seun Adebiyi in anyway they could. "Seun's enthusiasm to compete in 2014 Winter Olympic inspires me to believe that anything is possible, because of this donated life-saving umbilical cord blood unit, he is able to fulfill his dream. We are here to support him and spread the word about how donating umbilical cord blood is free, painless and could possibly save another life", says Brett Melius, Co-Founder of Preserve Our Legacy, and Inc. The mission is to educate individuals, especially those from various diverse ethnic communities about the benefits of stem cells and treatment options they provide through PBSC, bone marrow and umbilical cord blood donation. After the loss of a new friends' 3-year old African American son named Jaden Hilton. In honor of Jaden's death the Melius' spearheaded A2168/S2038 - Jaden's Law in New Jersey, which passed in 2010. They also obtained the support of New York Legislators with the introduction of NY A4294- Jaden's Law by New York Assemblyman Keith L.T. Wright and S5123 by New York Senator David Carlucci. Preserve Our Legacy's efforts for this legislation are to increase awareness about PBSC, bone marrow and umbilical cord blood donation within various ethnic communities. In addition, the New York legislation will provide New Yorkers the opportunity to register as a bone marrow donor online through DMV, voter registration cards as well as provide individuals the opportunity to donate through New York Anatomical gifts. Preserve Our Legacy also has a goal of registering 25,000 people for 2011 to assist in saving the lives of millions.
