Brown Honored As "Legislator Of The Year" By Medical Device Manufacturers Association

Jun 10, 2011 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) will be recognized as the "Legislator of the Year" by the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA).

Citing his legislative efforts to repeal the 2.3 percent tax on medical device manufacturers in the federal health care bill, the MDMA will present Brown with the award at their 17th Annual meeting in Washington D.C.

"With more than 225 medical device companies providing thousands of good-paying jobs in Massachusetts alone, I am extremely honored to receive this award," Brown said. "Our medical device companies cannot afford the tax increase in the federal health care bill, which in many cases represents their entire net profit and prohibits these companies from hiring, expanding and being globally competitive. I have made repealing this job-killing tax a top priority during my time in the Senate, and I will continue fighting for its elimination." Last year, one of Brown's first legislative initiatives in the Senate was co-sponsoring an amendment that would immediately repeal the medical manufacturing device tax which takes effect on the sale of medical devices after December 31, 2012. Earlier this year, Brown again introduced legislation that would repeal the tax.
