IN THE NEWS: CITIBANK HACKED, 200,000 CUSTOMERS AFFECTED NEW YORK (AP) _ It's happened again. And this time, it happened to Citibank. The bank says about 200,000 of its credit card customers in North America have had their names, account numbers and email addresses stolen by hackers who broke into the company's online account site. Citigroup says it found that account information for about 1 per cent of its credit card customers had been peeped by hackers. Citi has more than 21 million credit card customers in North America. The New York-based bank says it found out about the problem during routine monitoring. It wouldn't say exactly how many accounts were breached _ but says it is contacting those customers to inform them. IN THE NEWS: CARMAKERS LAUDED FOR DISTRACTED DRIVING EFFORTS SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (AP) _ U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is giving car companies a toot of the horn for their efforts to fight distracted driving. But he also says he's still looking into the idea of whether the government should regulate the kinds of communications technology built directly into vehicles. Most of today's cars are available with built-in GPS units, satellite radio and the ability to plug in players like iPods and cellphones. LaHood has been waging a campaign to discourage people from sending emails and making phone calls while driving. Meanwhile, the head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is questioning the safety of building communications tools directly into cars _ like being able to quickly link up with Facebook or Twitter. LaHood says a study is under way to find out how much of a distraction all those electronic doodads are to those behind the wheel. The Dallas Mavericks hold a 3-games to 2 lead in the NBA Finals as the series heads back to Miami. And a pivotal Game 5 in the Stanley Cup finals is on tap for tonight with the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks deadlocked at 2 games each. Online: NBA site: http://www.nba.com NHL site: http://www.nhl.com IN STORES: APPLE TO START REJECTING APPS THAT TIP OFF DUI CHECKPOINTS NEW YORK (AP) _ Apple has given in to pressure from four U.S. senators _ and says it will start rejecting iPhone apps that tip drivers off about police checkpoints for drunken driving. Apple has updated its app developer guidelines this week to exclude such apps. There were some DUI applications still available in Apple's App Store yesterday _ but Apple usually lets developers have time to tweak them to conform to new standards. Senators Harry Reid, Charles E. Schumer, Frank R. Lautenberg and Tom Udall asked Apple and other mobile companies to remove DUI-avoidance apps in March. RIM did, Apple now has _ but Google has refused.
