BRIEF: Arp Gas Station Owner Arrested For Alleged Gambling Offenses

Jun 07, 2011 (Tyler Morning Telegraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Arp police investigators arrested the owner of a Valero gas station Monday for three gambling-related offenses.

Police chief Gregory Scott McAuley said Saeb Kutob was charged with gambling promotion, keeping of a gambling place and possession of a gambling device.

McAuley said Kutob paid cash prizes to winners of the seven video-poker style gambling machines set up in his store. By law, the station is only allowed to award merchandise.

An undercover officer began to monitor gambling at the station after multiple residents notified authorities of the cash payouts, McAuley said.

"We've known about this place for a while," he said. "I think they used to pay out with merchandise, but over time they started paying cash." Another employee, Brandi Warner, plans to turn herself in today after being charged gambling promotion, McAuley said.

Authorities also plan to seek out individual gamblers, he said, whom they can identify from video cameras found in the store.
