Jun 06, 2011 (SmarTrend(R) Market Commentary via COMTEX) -- Last updated June 6, 2011: 1:30 PM ET --- The major U.S. equity indices are trading lower Monday as economic worries continue to weigh on markets.

Concerns that the Federal Reserve may require banks to set aside more cash to cover potential losses has caused banks stocks to fall.

The monthly jobs report, which came out on Friday, reinforced earlier signs that the U.S. economy is slowing.

In corporate news, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares are down 0.26% at $342.55 ahead of an appearance scheduled later in the day by CEO Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave. Jobs is expected to make a public appearance in San Francisco.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) is trading 0.16% lower at 12,131.58, the S&P500 (INX) is down 0.49% lower at 1,293.77, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) is trading 0.32% lower at 2,723.94.
