(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 06--APPLE SET TO INTRODUCE ICLOUD: Apple's Steve Jobs is set to introduce its "upcoming cloud services offering," the iCloud, AFP has reported. "iCloud was almost a throwaway line in the press release," said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst for technology research company Gartner. "But that's getting the most scrutiny because we don't know anything about it." According to reports, iCloud would allow for streaming of music hosted on Apple servers in the Internet "cloud" to various devices -- from computers to smartphones to touchscreen tablets.

NEW SONY HACK COMPROMISES 150 ACCOUNTS IN EUROPE: Sony has seen the thirteenth hack on one of its databases by a hacker compromising 120 user names, passwords, mobile phone numbers, work emails, and websites, PC Magazine has reported. The attacker claimed to have used a standard SQL injection attack to gain access to the database, which he promptly released to the public via Pastebin document. The passwords were allegedly stored as plain text within Sony's database.

GOOGLE TO STOP SUPPORTING OLDER BROWSERS: Google is phasing out support for older browsers from 1 August this year. The company has said that people or businesses using IE7, Safari 3, Firefox 3.5 and their predecessors to view Gmail, Google Calendar, Talk, Docs and Sites will lose some functions, before the services stop working altogether. Google has said that older browsers are more likely to have security issues, and are unable to handle the latest web technologies, such as HTML5.

APPLE TO UNVEIL ICLOUD AT WWDC: Apple CEO Steve Jobs will announce a range of new products, including the widely anticipated iCloud service, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) tomorrow. Lion, the latest version of Apple's Mac OS, will also be showcased. Apple reportedly bought the 'iCloud.com' domain name in April, but further reports have emerged that Apple has signed deals worth over $100m with music labels.

IPV6 TRIAL SET FOR JUNE 8: Hundreds of websites are set to take part in an experiment to test the next generation internet protocol IPv6 that can support vastly more devices with faster, lower-cost connectivity than today's technology, Info World has reported. On June 8, the internet's biggest players including Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and Microsoft, among the 318 corporations, universities, and government agencies, will serve up content using IPv6 to allow network engineers to determine how well the protocol works. The internet needs IPv6 because it is running out of addresses using IPv4. The old IPv4 protocol uses 32-bit addresses and can support 4.3 billion devices connected directly to the internet, but IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses and can connect up a virtually unlimited number of devices.
