Summer Heats Up for Gadget Lovers and Investors with New Technology Announcements(Benzinga Lightning Feed Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Investors and gadget lovers alike always love the prospect of new hit products - and June should keep everybody on their toes! Here is a small sampling of some of the products expected to be announced soon: Nintendo's (PINK: NTDOY) unveiling of its newest game console at the E3 gaming conference in LA this week. Nintendo is hoping to piggyback the tremendous success of its motion-controlled Wii gaming console, which has been a huge hit with families especially. According to a CBS report, "The new console is almost certain to support high-definition gaming, which is the one big thing the Wii lacks. When Nintendo released the Wii, HD televisions were still a rarity in American homes, so it wasn't a major shortcoming that the Wii didn't play HD games. Now that HDTVs are standard fare, the Wii's disadvantage has become increasingly apparent, especially when its games are compared side by side with those that play on Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's Xbox 360." Some speculate that an online offering will be announced, or the possibility of some new "magic." Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) WWDC event. The company is expected to release several notable products, including: 1. A cloud music service. The product is expected to compete to similar ones offered by Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), and could be a huge hit if the company can capitalize on its extraordinary iTunes footprint. 2. New desktop software. While this isn't the sexiest of Apple's announcements, users are consistently loyal in their software upgrades. 3. New mobile software. Apple's software for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad is expected to receive an upgrade as well. Expect slick features and an upgrade in usability. 4. Similar to years past, don't be surprised if Apple CEO Steve Jobs has a surprise up his sleeve. Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) first 7-inch Honeycomb tablet was just announced. The company worked with ViewSonic to create the ViewPad 7x, the first tablet that carries a 1024 x 600 resolution and Google's latest version of its Android mobile OS. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) should announce some additions to its game line up to take advantage of its new motion-activated Kinect system at the E3 conference. Sony (NYSE: SNE), still recovering from hacking attacks and the Japanese disaster, is expected to release new game titles and news related to its portable gaming unit, the PSP. Motorola (NYSE: MOT) just had photos leak of its highly-anticipated Droid 3 smartphone. New rumored features include an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p HD video recordings in addition to micro-USB and mini-HDMI functionality. (c) 2011 Benzinga.com. All rights reserved.
