Huawei Won 2G, 3G Network Contract from Bharti Airtel


SHENZHEN, Jun 02, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Bharti Airtel, the largest mobile telecom operator in India, was said to issue a statement on May 31, 2011, saying that it signed a contract with Huawei Technology Co., Ltd., a global leading provider of telecom equipment and solutions, to let the latter help it to modernize and expand its 2G and 3G network in Africa.

The Indian operator said the Chinese company will design, plan, modernize and expand its telecom network but not involve in operation management and network maintenance. Huawei will deploy complete GSM and 3G product portfolios as well as GSM and HSPA technologies for the partner to make well preparation for the future development of LTE.

Bharti Airtel CEO and Joint Managing Director Manoj Kohli said the cooperation will drive the two parties to focus on providing better use experience for clients.


Based on the resources used, the contract is estimated to be worth about USD 400 million. However, the two parties in action did not reveal the specific trading value and not confirm the estimated value.
