Capella University Launches Online Master of Science in Homeland Security

May 26, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Capella University, an accredited online university, has announced a new Master of Science in Homeland Security.

The online master's degree is designed to develop leadership competencies specific to the field of homeland security, as well as the communication, technology, and critical analysis skills necessary to prepare for, prevent, and respond to homeland security issues and emergency events. Capella said its new program is one of few master's degrees focused on this field. As of March 31, nearly 40,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), with 31 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 47 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.

Capella's MS in Homeland Security is being taught by leaders in the field of homeland security, including faculty who have worked directly for or consulted with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the National Security Agency (NSA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Defense (DOD), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other federal, state, local, and tribal agencies. "We're delighted to have assembled such a strong team to teach in our new MS in Homeland Security program," said Micheal Kemp, PhD, CEM, faculty chair for the program and himself an internationally recognized expert in the field of emergency management. Dr. Kemp is also one of very few individuals in the U.S. with a PhD in Emergency Management, and also holds the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credential.
